  4. Do you have an emergency disaster plan in place?
Absolutely. We take disaster preparedness very seriously and continuously conduct fire, earthquake, and "code red" or lock-down drills. Students receive instruction from their classroom teachers on how to take shelter in place, evacuate the school buildings, and proceed to designated evacuation areas.

Please also note, there is an Emergency Info/Breaking News page available on our website, which we will make every effort to update with information and instructions in the event of an emergency during school hours.

  5. Where should my student go to find an item they lost at school?
Lost items (clothing, lunch boxes, bags, etc.), with the exception of textbooks, are turned in to the Guidance Office and kept behind the counter. You may search the lost and found cupboard any time during regular school hours.

Lost textbooks are usually placed in the Library or placed in the corresponding teacher's box in the Main Office for safe return to the student. Check with Mrs. Christiansen in the Library if you have lost a book.

Any obviously valuable items (cell phones, jewelry, etc.) will be kept separate in the Main Office. Please see Mrs. Minter with questions.

  6. My student needs to leave school early for an appointment. What do I do?
Please write a note explaining why and when you will need to pick up your student(s) and sign it, including your contact information for the day. Have your child take the note to the Guidance Office before school on the day of the appointment.

The office staff will prepare a pink-slip and give it to your student. Your student will then use the pink slip to leave class early by giving it to their teacher at the designated dismissal time. Please note, you will need to come in to the Guidance Office to sign your student out for the day.

While we appreciate every effort to plan ahead and send a note, if you need to pick up your student(s) unexpectedly, the Guidance Office will be able to assist you in calling them out of class.

  11. I need a tutor for my child. What should I do?
A tutoring program is available for students whose current grade in a particular class is a ā€œDā€ or an ā€œFā€ (if tutors are available, tutoring may be assigned to students with a C- grade).

It begins after the first progress report and continues throughout the year. The tutors are L.A.B. students who volunteer to help their peers. Each tutor has been successful in the class they are tutoring, and many of them are members of our California Scholarship Federation. After students apply for the program, they are notified if, and when, a tutor is available for them.

Students requesting tutoring must make a commitment to be present at all tutoring sessions, bring necessary textbooks and be ready to explain academic needs to the tutor. The tutor program coordinator for the 2011-2012 school year is Mr. Shanks (Mathematics).

Please contact Mr. Keith Shanks by clicking here for more information regarding a tutor.

  12. What is "Free Jeans Day"?
"Free Jeans Days" are days when students are permitted to wear denim shorts or pants in place of their regular uniform. Jeans days occur every Friday, but only the first Friday of every month is a Free Jeans Day.

Otherwise, students contribute $2.00 to a predetermined outreach fund in order to participate. If a student would rather not wear denim and/or contribute the $2.00, they must be in regular dress code.

On Jeans Days, students must wear an LAB shirt that they have purchased for some purpose on campus. For example: uniform polo's, Knights sports wear, purple storm t-shirts, bleacher creature t-shirts, theatre shirts, LAB organization t-shirts, LAB sweatshirts, etc. Please note, jeans that are frayed, torn, ripped, or excessively tight are NOT allowed.

Click here for a calendar list of this year's Denim Days.
