Air quality standards may be scrapped
By Manisha Mistry

AN EXTRA 60,000 flights a year could be allowed to fly over London after a government plans to scrap air quality standards were revealed.

Aviation ministers are to ask the European commission to remove the capital from air traffic pollution limits.

However, campaigners say they feel betrayed because they were told plans for a third runway and sixth terminal will be halted if air quality standards are not met.

The information obtained by the Sunday Times was published yesterday.
