Message:   It has been a bit depressing on here of late – so here is some other news.

Last Friday I took a 114 bus through Harrow and guess what……nothing happened.

I then changed to another bus at Burnt Oak and went to a pub at Totteridge where I met a friend. The bus was three minutes late but otherwise…….nothing happened.

On the Monday before that I took a train to Hammersmith and a bus to Barnes. I came back via White City where I had to walk along a road near the White City Estate at about midnight and………..nothing happened.

I think you get my drift here. If somebody is having a pee in an alley just regard it as a man (I assume!) who has a need. He is being discrete. OK it might not be the nicest thing but…..he is probably not about to mug you. Yes groups in dark alleys can be intimidating. I am not sure how many people get MUGGED in Ruislip – but I would suggest it is very very low compared to other local places. I gave up worrying about such things long ago. I have very little control over it, so apart from a little common sense, I just ignore the possibility.

I go where I want and at what time I want on foot or by public transport. I am not going to say I have not seen a few unpleasant things, but I could count them on one hand, and then it was only folk being aggressive where they knew each other. I even took a midnight bus out of Brixton a few weeks ago and guess what…….nothing happened!!!

Sure it can get a bit rowdy, sure I have had beggars and one even a prostitute approach me(!). My answer is simple. SMILE and say No Thank You.

Right now I am going to walk in the dark to Ruislip Manor………
