Re: First Conn. Weekend Report

I'll tell you my one and only experience with the CT. lakes some 30 years ago. It was short and funny experience.

After trucking across VT and NH on back roads we arrived at I think the 3rd Lake, me and the 3 boys got out all set for a wildernss experience, fishing, camping, etc.

My wife refused to get out of the truck, no beach, too may bugs, etc. etc. outhouses, you know the rest, back in the truck and headed south, back to civilization, lol.

Never went back up.

We went to 1st Conn. this past weekend.
My daughter with our 3 grandsons came as did Trav and Kersten and Colan(Kripple II)
Fishing was good as we caaught quite a few salmon and lakers ....about a 50/50 mix. Hottest lure was rangley special(DB) with silver back and silver seemed to be the color in general. No big fish but did get several 18-19" salmon.
Drew and Bailey(grandsons) had a blast as they caught all the fish. Sure is fun watching the 6 year old wrestle the pole and the fish all the while saying ...I don't need any help! Both handle the rod really well.
We also hit some small streams and caught natives for a fish fry on Sunday. Now the boys are begging me everyday to go brook fishing! Yeah Trav too..(:
At any rate ...great lake to fish with little or no boat traffic...just sharing the water with other fisherman and women.
Good Luck to All!

Nice way to spend a weekend!

Re: Re: Re: Re: First Conn. Weekend Report

LOL Dave,
I don't think I have any secrets but what seemed to work for us was DB's and the Rangley special with silver back was the best. The water was high and discolored. We caught most salmon between 16-30' and in the deeper water.
Colan and I also caught our biggest salmon trolling shiners we caught in the lake at same depths at a speed of about 1.8 MPH.
On the hardware we trolled at 2.5-2.8 for best results....faster than we usually go on Winni.
Also lead core with long leaders seemed to work better, so we were dropping back 50' or so on the riggers with good results.
Let me know how you make out.
Good Luck to All!

Big John,

Must be something in the water down there. My wife is the same way. Won't get out with me all that often when we're at our camp in Rangeley, black flies, ticks, cold, wet you name it but she sure did enjoy herself in Key Biscayne (see report). She grew up in your town so it must be the water. They always blame it on the water there right?
