Re: Laker Jigging

ive fished a couple lakes in the area but not caspian. handlining at less than a half mile per hour ovr a sandy bottom 30 to 50 feet deep with lead core and sutton spoons is pretty effective. you need to put enough lead out until the bottom is felt and then jig the line with your hand while the boat moves very slowly. i pile the line on the floor and let it out and pick it up so that only about 1 color of lead is dragging in the sand mud as the depths change. on willoghby and a few other lakes up there you can pick up alot of lakers in a couple hours doing this. it works over on sebago as well. sandy humps and bars is what you need to find. i believ caspian would be similar to the other lakes in the area for bottom makeup.

I have some copper line if you want to set up a rod for raking the bottom. I can loan you pretty much an entire copper set up if you like. Take a few minutes to put it together from "spares". Let me know

Re: Laker Jigging

There's a couple of deep holes in that lake. They're separated by a shelf in the middle of the lake. I've done well coming over the shelf and dropping the riggers as best I could to follow the countour of the shelf.

Seems that the big lakers (20 pounders) are always caught ice fishing.

If you have to use the public launch, good luck. Sand bottom and very shallow. Crappiest public launch in the area.
