I hear ya about the weather Sunday. I hit the water about 5:30 AM out of Meredith and fished hard in the bay until around 8:45. Nothing on my rigger or leadcore. Completely dead. Decided to head to Rattlesnake knowing the weather report but man, I wanted to catch fish. Got set up on the Northwest side of RattleSnake for about an half hour and low and behold, the skies opened up. Thunder, lightning, Florida rain etc....I thought I was gonna die! The reason being is that I have a boat that is a 16 foot 1982 project with a 70hp Johnson and no top or cover whatsoever. I also rewired the whole thing this winter but had yet to test the bilge in these conditions. WOW...what a test but thank God, the bilge, the engine and everything performed awesome. If anyone saw me out there they probably thought I was crazy as I had no choice but to ride out the storm. You see, I'm not to familiar with Winni and with only a map a compass and no GPS and visibility down to 300 yards, there was no way I was going to make a run for Meredith so I hung by Rattlesnake until the storm passed. I will be honest.....I was kind of scared being on the boat by myself as my fishin buddies were smart enough to stay home because of the weather report.
After the storm passed, it actually turned quite nice and I got back to serious fishin again. Unfortunately the only decent fish I caught was a 16" salmon right after the storm on a leadcore line, 5 colors out on an AJ's Smelt Gunner. I'd tell you the color but I can't remember! Turned 45 Y.O. today. The memory is going quickly...probably a good thng LOL!
My day...one 16"salmon, LDR'd one fish, caught 1, 8" salmon and 1, 10" bow on downrigger at around 32'. All caught on AJ Smelt Gunners but which colors I couldn't tell you as I was changing colors so much trying to get the fish to hit.
Hey Smokin turtle, you ended up not to far from us.We were at black point when the storm hit,we got only the rain the rest of h-ll was further north towards you.We actually had a pretty good day,13 in the boat, don't have the log with me but a good mix of bows and salmon and 1 laker. We did catch 3 rats off black point, should probly avoid that area for a while.Biggest fish caught was a 19.5 salmon which was the only fish brought home yum yum.Best lure was wonderbread, see you on the pond.polebreaker
