Rounded up My Dad and Capt Dan and Togue for a day on the salt. Left Salisbury about 4:30 and headed out off the beach and anchored up for mackerel. Caught probably 80+ in less than an hour. The plan was to get some big ones to take offshore for tuna baits. We had plenty of horses and a bunch of tinkers too.
We ran out to the inside of the ledge and found dogfish everywhere all over the top and mid water, this would make tuna fishing impossible they were biting our jigs 2 feet down, you could have just free gaffed all the dogfish you wanted.
With tuna chunking out of the question we bottom fished a couple drifts in 200-309ft of water, kept a dozen nice fish: cod, haddock, and pollack up to 10 pounds, released about 30? small codfish. Jigs and clam bait did equally well.
Ran 28 miles back to shore at just over 30mph with a 2 foot following sea to make it back for the outgoing tide which started around 1.
We stopped and fished for mackerel a bit more to really fill the well with live macks, got into them very hot after a slow start took about 30 minutres to really turn them on hot, then it was game on.
Headed to the river for about 3 hours of drifting the outgoing, the drift was very nice from the 7 buoy all the way out to the red gong outside the river. Many drifts produced 5-8 fish, 4 guys drifting with a good number of triple and quad hookups, the best bite was outside the river in the NASTY water, it was hold onto something and hold onto the rod, had to drop to the knees a few times in the rough stuff but it was worth it because nobody got hurt, well except for the fish! Not certain about a number but it was a lot of bass that's for sure. We had probably 80 live mackerel in the well and plenty of dead ones too but we just kept pitching beautiful live baits to them and they couldn't resist it.
Biggest bass were 18 and 26 pounds with a bunch of 7-9 pound bass too. Togue had the 26 and i got the 18. Here is a couple pics.
What a day on the water!
Don't let that grimace fool anybody, I was having the time of my life out there, but the fish was heavy, the day was long, and take a look at that horizon relative to the boat. Rocking and rolling through the mouth of the Merrimack on a dropping tide is no time for a photo shoot.
Excellent fishing, perfect weather, and awesome company! Absolutely incredible, YOAdrien - you are the BEST!
Great day on the Yo-Adrien yesterday! The weather was awesome and so was the company on the boat. On the way out we saw whales and learned about the laws on the water and all about how people eat people from Togue. So they could survive out at sea when they got lost out in the ocean.LOL Made us all kinda worry alittle bit when Togue was watering at the mouth....LOL SO, after the morebid conversation we started to fish. And we started to wounder why some one was wearing these on a boat..??

Are these womens shoes??
Wouldn't you be scared of this guy if you say him out at sea..Feed me..
Wouldn't you be worried if you had this guy talking about eating people out at sea...I think so..
Here's Adrien

He wins smallest fish to bait catagory..
Wait, here's those shoes again

O'wait, what are we not seeing here... Ahhh the shoes

Nice fish Togue!
Adrien..
And the biggest stripers of the day

It really was a great day and Togue provided the entertainment for the day..And also caught the biggest fish for the day. Nice fish togue.
The fog rolled in and it was pea soup out there and at one point you could hear a whale breech near by but couldn't see farther than 200ft. Over all encluding the macks we caught for bait I would say we caught over 300 fish for the day.
Glad to hear you guys had a good time and caught a bunch of fish to boot!!!!!!!!! love that pic with the mac coming out of the stripers mouth LMAO and the one with Adrien with the small cod Now that's funny!!!!!!!! Take Care God Bless and Tight Lines LOL Dave From up North (Who's caught bigger brookies then that cod LMAO)
You guys are just jealous.....I'll remember this one if/when the next time comes around that you out fish me! LOL
Least I didn't get a sunburn, and take it from this Maine-iac - those LL Bean Hunting boots work like a charm every time! The fish can just tell who in the boat is wearing them and they jump at the chance to get on my line...
Great job guys and great pics.
Adrien, you did it again. Nice to have a succesful plan B when the dogs screw up the tuna fishing.
Richard
