I'm in the masonry/concrete business (licensed) and let me tell you it is NO different than the crap shown on your site. Heck the pictures of the brick work on the site are a perfect example and my response is the same, who does this stuff? where does it come from? In out here in CA and I know where it comes from but I will not say.
I grew up in PA the son of a master mason who was the son of a mason who married a woman who's father was a general contractor at 19 after coming to this country from Italy a few years earlier. I have been around the building industry my whole life and the $hit it see now days makes me sick and my pocket book even sicker.
How the hell do you compete with guys that do work like this?..you cant, if you do it right. Every Tom, Dick and Sally that have seen it done on HG TV or some freaking home show done wrong question you about the price because "well they didn't use rebar or they didn't put a big footing" its like a double whammy. On one had you have the customer that has NO idea what they are talking about but KNOW everything because they have seen it on TV. Then you have these freaks that hire workers for 5.00 an hour and if it flies it flies if not there not out that much cost. But the real problem is the guys running the sites "the builders" they have these kids (I'm 40) running these jobs that only know the difference between a craftsman and an apprentice as craftsman is from Sears and an apprentice is a really cool TV show
We loose so much work to these people after 30 years its time to think about a new business its unfortunate that guys like you and me are a dying breed. What we are faced with from a business stand point is when in Rome do as the Romans, get out completely or focus on a specific niche and just do that. I cannot believe the crap people will settle for either. Stone work (cultured of course because no one can lay the real stuff anymore)so bad it doesn't even look like stone yet people are so happy they have stone on their house..I have a bunch of pictures if you would like to see them.
We have a small site at http://www.palmisanoconcrete.com that I am working on adding a section of just like your site all the crap out there. If I might make a suggestion regarding your site you have a lot of really good...bad photos but the descriptions of what is actually wrong is very weak actually in most pics I looked at not at all. I think you need to tell people what it is they are looking at that is wrong..Just a thought
Its late and I'm gonna sleep better knowing someone is as frustrated as I am with this issue. |
