Revolutionary Prayer (Chasing Daylight by Erwin McManus)

Erwin McManus in his book, Chasing Daylight, writes (p.218): "The purpose of prayer is to keep you connected, and when your connected to God, you are moving with Him. Prayer that connects you to God positions you to seize divine moments. This kind of prayer gives you the courage to live the life of an adventurer. Prayer should move you, not paralyze you. And when you pray with the intent to obey, you become a magnet who draws others into God's presence. You can choose to establish a monument for prayer or pray to unlease a movement. One is religious; the other revolutionary."

In what ways do you think God can cause us to "unlease a movement" in this new faith community through the power of "revolutionary" prayer?

Re: Revolutionary Prayer (Chasing Daylight by Erwin McManus)

Shouldn't prayer be just one of the many ways that a person connects with God. Should not prayer come from not only a willingness to obey, but also to feel a connection and a oneness with God. Not just prayer but Faith should move you every day, Faith in your beliefs. There are those who pray and have revolutionary things happen to them, then there are those who pray that never wind up with anything more than bruises on their knees and a weakend spirit. Should prayer not be the be all and end all of a God filled life but a way of communication. Should a person not already be connected with God in the most faith based of forms before a single prayer has ever passed ones lips or heart.

Re: Revolutionary Prayer (Chasing Daylight by Erwin McManus)

I agree that prayer is one the paths of communication with God. Yet, too often many people go on their knees in prayer simply expecting God to come in and save the day. I believe what Erwin McManus is trying to say is that when we pray we ought to be open to let God move in us as well. That we should expect God to want to move in us to do something amazing and not just believe that it will only be done through other people.
