Following our brief contact on ancestry recently I am very intrested in your connections regarding Hannah Allen who married Giles Williams in 1817. I have been tracing the Benoke family and as I mentioned had found Giles Williams maarried to Sidonia on the 1861 census. They had Hooper Benoke with them listed as grandson and were living in Wedmore Somerset, civil parish Winscombe.
I thought the family link was as follows
Giles & Sidonia Williams - Daughter Ann(babt 1824, Weir. Somerset) married Richard Benoke (babt 1820, Plymouth).
They had 6 children that i can trace and two possibles that I have yet to confirm. Hooper Scott Benoke was born 8/12/1850, he married three times, but his second marriage was to Louisa Nipper from London.
I have briefly traced a little of her family background. Her father was Joseph Nipper (babt 1829 in Winscombe, Somerset, father George),her mother Mary (babt 1829 in Somerset).
It seems their maybe a double connection here.
I am a direct descendant from the marriage of Hooper and Louisa, they both being my great grandparents.
Another fact I noticed on your site page you have the surname Hannam from Somerset. I have been tracing another family line and have traced Hannams in Somerset, however this is a recent direction as I have spent most time in the last 7 years searching Benokes. The main difficulty as been the name either being spelt or transcribed incorrectly.
Would like to here back from you on the above subject if possible. Regards June |
