Sex anyone?

Not sure on everyones view on the sex industry in Thailand but this was a great retort I found on Stickmans bangkok pages. The writer is responding to a guy named Dana, Dana feels that people should only pay the going rate for sex, Dana is a sex tourist whom probably only goes to Thailand for things he cant get back home. The writer replies as such:

Ah, good old Dana. Good warm-heated, generous-to-a-fault Dana. The original ugly American. Hate him or loathe, him, there's no getting away from him. Don’t overpay bargirls, he says. It spoils it for the rest of us. Pay the market rate. Not a baht more, not a baht less.

Err, Earth calling Dana. I’ll pay what I like, mate. It’s none of your business what I pay. In fact, knowing that it ****** you off will encourage me to pay even more. Why? Because it will spoil it for the cheapskates like you. I look at it this way. If I pay a girl 3,000 baht short time, she's less likely to go with a scumbag like you for 1,000. Overpaying works. The pretty girls in Rainbow 2 in Nana Plaza won't go with farangs, because farangs won't pay more than 1,500 baht. The Japs pay 3,000 baht and more. o, Japs get laid in Rainbow 2, the likes of Dana don’t. Sounds fair to me.

I don’t like cheap sex. Cheap sex brings in the low-rent sex tourists. Guys who just come to Thailand to screw cheap hookers. I like expensive sex. I like knowing that the girl charges more than the likes of Dana will pay. I like knowing that when a fat ***** in shorts and flip flops leers at her and offers her 1,000 baht she's going to smile sweetly and tell him that he's wasting his time.

I don’t want to be where Dana has gone. I don’t want to sleep in a hotel bed where Dana has slept. I don’t want to eat in a restaurant where the fork has been in Dana’s mouth. I don’t want to sit on a toilet seat in a plane where Dana has plonked his fat arse. I do not want to have sex with a girl who has been on the receiving end of Dana’s jaded little pecker.

I am happy to pay for a degree of exclusivity. I’m not stupid, I know I don’t have the girl to myself. But if more guys like me overpaid then there'd be less scope for the likes of Dana forcing the girls to sell themselves cheap. Prices would go up and the likes of Dana would stay at home. Or at least stop having paid-for sex in Thailand.

I am happy that Dana stays at the AA Hotel in Pattaya, a well known haven for sex tourists. I stay in a much better hotel, pay more money, and don’t have to look at Dana while I’m having breakfast. I’ll happily pay extra for that privilege. I fly business class. Not because I need a bigger seat, I don’t. I don’t eat airplane food, either. Or use the business class lounge. I fly business class so that I don’t have to sit next to guys like Dana. If I had my way flights would cost ten times as much and airlines would fly one tenth of the number of passengers. Think how much safer the roads would be if car prices went up 1000 per cent and the number of cars went down by 90 per cent. It'll never happen. That's not the way of the world. So maybe I’m ******* in the wind by overpaying bargirls. But it’s my money and I’ll spend it how I want.

I do resent Dana telling us all not to overpay. I don’t tell him how to live his life. But he's an American and don’t Americans just love telling the rest of the world how to behave?

So, you pay what you want to pay, Dana. I’ll pay what I want to pay. The rest of you make up your own minds.

I checked out the other web-board PW. Please tell the story of why you are banned! I posted this to raise opinion on girly beer bars on Ko Phangan. So please if anyone has any response to the beer bars on Ko phangan than please respond. How do you feel about them? How do you feel about the prices? etc.
Are these bars taking away from the island experience? Will a Once in a full moon party bring more prostitution to the island?

Well,I ve never been comfortable with sex-tourism.Rich Westerners going to the third world to have sex with poor third world people.Exploitation at its worst.
I would nt be happy if foreigners came to my country,Just to shag our women.I have nothing at all against relationships with locals,But I find it hard to understand how paying people to spend time with you has been universally accepted.
And its really not all that its cracked up to be:I ve seen so many"couples" the next morning,sitting having breakfast.Both trying to avoid eye contact,both continously studying the menu and both hoping the food comes quick so they can get the hell out of there.And most of the people who ve indulged,regret it.myself included.
Dont get me wrong.I think Thai girls are georgeous and have no problem with giving poor people money.
I just think the whole sex industry is wrong,immoral and corrupt from top to bottom.I got banned from the other board for telling a few home truths.Lots of people agreed with me.But they scrubbed the board and started again.And all they do is lie about me now and I cant reply.

i sought of agree,but you are doing the girls and all tourist that go to thailand a dis-service.We live in a different culture where this is not acceptable,however,its is in thailand.If you think it is wrong dont do it !!!!!!Please dont say it is acceptable if yuo pay more.But if you want to do this dont give a minimum wage,give what you think its worth;;;;;;;;;;;;;that should be more than 2 weeks holiday cost if you are a fat old c**t that can't get any sex.
PS. when im a fat old guy iwill pay double

So in Thailand prostitution is "acceptable"? Do you mean socially or lawfully? I'd define "acceptable" as "selling ones body by choice rather than by a lack of money, education and options". So if my definition applies (which it does for me) it's acceptable where it's legal and controlled, not where 14 year-olds tell you they're 18 so they can get money for cigarettes, jabba and some new outfit.

I'll bite party guy. Not that I have ever had sex with or inquired, I'm a straight women. But what are you asking? If people should pay more then the going rate or are you asking about how people feel about the fact that there are bars with working girls on Phangan? I hang mostly with Thai people when I'm there and we go to the Kareeoke bars all the time.

One of my friends favorite is one that is air conditioned and has girls for hire there. It's such a normal thing for the Thai men to be with working girls, that women and men go to these places and just have fun. Some of the guys might go with a girl, but the ones the times I've gone with a group we just hang out and the guys get there egos stroke, uh hum, by the girls trying to get them to go off with them. We sing, eat and drink and make fun of the guy who is getting the moves put on him. I'm not saying that women go with their husbands while they are on the search, but they do go.
As far as paying what you want, of course you should and the Dana person sounds like a Cheap Charlie to me. Phangan doesn't really have a big sex tourism apeal. Why would guys pay for sex when there are so many farang girls on holiday wanting to get laid.
But some guys I guess want to hook up with a Thai girl and if your on holiday for two weeks then you might as well get a pro. I don't know of any Thai women who will shag a guy knowing he is only there on holiday, unless she is. It's not worth their time. Most Thais don't have the romantic notions that us farangs have and they don't have the same kind of free time to go out and party looking for a good time.

I do know a few of the working girls on Samui that free lance. I was suprised I guess at how many of them there are. My friend was staying with one while she was breaking up with her boyfriend and we all went to Reggae Pub. I was sort of shocked at how many girls were there. It was late and the bar was not that busy. There must have been 3 girls to every guy and trust me most of the Thai girls there were working. It was interesting for me, cause I allways think of working girls being at the go go bars and beer bars. The other thing that's funny is a lot of them hang around at home until really late like an hour before the bar shuts down before they head out.
It was good for me to see a little bit of that world. I think I always had the notion of girls being forced in it or having no other choice blah blah blah, but that's not the case. With the girls I was with that night, it was just like gettting ready to go out when I was younger in a lot of ways, go to the bar, have some drinks, dance with my friends and look for cute guys. They just expect to get paid if they are going to have sex with someone and it's a very big part of why they are out. I know there is a lot of different types of situations and girls out there. But the free lance girls I went out with were going to the places were the young guys hang out. Anyway, just thought I'd share a little of what I've experienced. The other thing that is so totally different is here, the U.S., working girls get kicked out of the bars. At Reggae pub they just checked the ID's to make sure the girls weren't under age. I don't think they were kicking back the bar anything.

My reasoning for the post was to prompt disscusions on views of the sex industry in Thailand. More precisely on Ko Phangan but just in general hoping to get responses that painted pictures of peoples experiences. The initial post I pasted on this site was someones view I had taken from another site. I dont know this person or the person he is talking about. Also never stated I was in agreeance or contradiction to his views. Nonetheless it is one persons right to feel the way he does. I posted this same thing on www.fullmoonparty-thailand.com and I got nothing but grief, some people thought I was Dana and I was accused of everything you can think of.
"Whatever" you seemed to express a fairly bang on description of life on Ko phangan and also Samui. All your experiences are very true and I can relate. Reggae pub is a haven for free-lancers, also provides tourists with a great night on the town regardless if your looking for payed sex or not. Many places are like that just as you described, Ko Phangan has a rampant sex industry which is always growing, although it caters to a different crowd than your typical places like Nana, Patpong, Pattaya and Phuket.
I respect peoples point of views on all topics because if we all agreed the world would be crap boring. Please go to the site I listed above and see the responses it prompted.
