Re: hadd yao (longbeach)

I was there last month, into Low season now and basically only the bigger places have people, it is surprising that whilst I was there there were still people trying to get rooms for 100 baht, one time 3 people wanted to share a room and were looking for a room with 3 beds!!!! If you have ever seen one let me know. The Thais are sick of cheap charlies who are trying to get basically free rooms.
Dont peole realise 100 baht is $3 dollars Oz and just over 1 pound.
The bar owners are sick of people buying their beer for 5 baht cheaper at a supermarket and then wanting to sit in the bar and listen to music. I can understand peole wanting to stretch out their holidays but really the Thais are getting ****** off.
They call these people 'Key Nok' or Bird droppings.

Haad Yeo is still looking beautiful in fact it is has some of the best sand on the Island. The Thai people there have had their troubles over the years but are pretty laid back now except for Key Nok Travellers.

Re: hadd yao (longbeach)

yeah the bar OWNERS were getting ****** when we were there, with people trying to get EVERYTHING cheaper. Totally understand aswell.
I'm back home and went for a Thai meal where i was so happy to get a singh lek, but not so happy it cost me £4! so buying a beer for 50b (under £1)isnt exactly daylight robbery is it now?
Used to hangout and help out in some of the bars there, and it was ridulous some of the attitudes travellers and holiday people used to be like over prices! shocking behaviour! get your arses to the carribian, where it is daylight robbery for everything!
change the record people, aint it? how long were you in HAAD YAO BOB?

Re: hadd yao (longbeach)

I was traveling alone with my 8 yo half thai daughter (Divorced -lives with me full time)and she learnt the words Key Nok,cheap charlies, wankers, from him she heard it so many times,We axctually went with him to Khao Sok one of his friends has a nice resort there, and yes he did go to Mayalsia for a few days and Phuket, I think he was planning on leaving Haad Yeo to work in Phuket during low season.
He needs to change his misic though to mix it up a bit,I tried to tell him but he wouldnt listen, I went there every night because my daughter would be sleeping in the near by room and I could go to check on her easily and see the room from there, are you going back some time? I got there about 23/3/05.

The music does need some sorting, sometimes its alright! and yeah, he wouldnt listen to us either! We tried giving him some promotional ideas aswell, but he wasnt having any of it! He is a top bloke though and i hope we see him again in September!

Re: hadd yao (longbeach)

Hey Bob, there are quite a few places tio stay now ranging from about 150 baht away from the beach, about 300 on the beach which is much better, I stay at Bayview on the hill at one end which is cheap but really hasn't made much improvements over the last 15 years, there is now an upmarket resort Long Bay which has new rooms fan for 700 and aircon 1200 up to 4000 with a pool which on a beach like this you dont really need. Sandy Bay is good, Long Beach is good in fact they all are pretty good, Long Beach has music blaring in the afternoon usually the same tape every day unless a farang asks them to change it,
so basically prices to suit anyone I like Bayview because I can get a room right on the sand absolutley beach front.

Re: hadd yao (longbeach)

aww bless Longbeach resort, i found the staff here pretty cool, they tend to put tunes on when the sun is setting, whilst the game of footy starts somewhere nearby. Your right about the music, sounding the same, but they are really open to putting on any cd of your choice! In the ambient setting, i had a new cd sent over for christmas! Drum and Bass was roaring thorough the beach! Changed it after a few songs, seemed highly innappropiate for that chilled out, beautiful time of day, but us and the guys were in hystrics at the change in people's faces!

In the evenings Hadd Yao Bungalows is a real nice place to eat at, tables laid out on the beach, really nice setting! It can get real busy just after sunset!

They whole area is pretty varied. When i left, there was some rumour that a hotel was being built behind Longbeach and Hadd Yao Bungalows.

Bob what was happening when you left? the ground was all flattened when we left for home!

Never made it to the lounge but am getting married on haad yao beach in january ( will be our 1st visit to haad yao but my 4th to phangan)
thought i would stick the lounge on the search engine and here i am.
Found sandy bay on the net and may stay their for a week but just wanted some info on any cool bars and decent places to eat or stay, anyones input would be most helpfull... cheers Dave (uk)

Re: hadd yao (longbeach)

Congratulations on the wedding!!! what a lovely place to be getting married

For Bars in Hadd yao i liked hanging out on the Beach front Bars, such as Longbeach. Lizard Lounge is a lovely looking place, but Jakes is the old favourite just off the road as you come in to hadd yao from Thong Sala. you can get to it by walking through Ibiza bungalows (i think) its so relaxed in there, but always very lively when it wants to be!
As for eating, Hadd Yao bungalows always had nice food, just some of the staff looked very unhappy working there!

Wherever you go in Hadd yao i'm sure you'll enjoy it! Its all about the company!

See you in January
Dave

Re: hadd yao (longbeach).... FAO:KT

Hi KT, and thanks for the info, so you will be their in january also...
We have a few people coming out with us and will be staying for a couple of weeks in a place called porn sawan, about 5 mins by moped from thong sala, its very basic but very laid back and always have memorable times around their little bar on the beach (sky bar )and is a couple of mins walk from the Amsterdam bar if you know it.
Been back their each time for the crack but the lady running it is moving on next summer so will be our last year at the swan, end of an era but a good time to branch out and discover other places.
Had a week on a beach on the NW last jan which was beautiful (Thong nai pan noi) and very relaxing.
Do you think the sandy bay resort will be a good place to stay as the other half wants our friends and family to stay at a different resort on the beach as i cant be trusted not to get **** faced every nite when my friends are their, that will have to be exhausted at the swan !!
We are getting married at sunset on the 23rd jan so if your their come and introduce yourself and have a beer.. (we will be the ones in the funny outfits)
So whats yer name and where ya from, talk to ya soon Dave
