The way that the majority of people choose to get to KPG from BKK is to catch the evening bus/ferry from BKK, usually departs at 6 or 7 PM, this arrives at Surratani at about 5 A.M, pleny of time to get ready for the ferry across which departs Surratani at about 9 A.M and arrives at KPG about 2 PM. The cost for the combined coach/ferry ticket is about 5-650 Baht(US $15?). There is also the option of taking the train from BKK to Surratani, its a bit more expensive than the coach, but more comfortable, also safer , as the coaches are notorious for theft, its quite common for a Thai to spend the journey in the luggage department and spend the whole journey going though the luggage and stealing whatever he can find. There is also a slow night boat from Surratani which takes twice as long as the fast ferry , but you would have to spend the night in surratani or get a locak bus fron BKK for the connection. Various differeny companies run coaches fron BKK-Surattani, some have new luxury coachs and are decent companies and some are just rip-off merchants with old decrepid coaches and a very bad service. |
whatever

Flying is of course the fastest and most expensive. That takes you to Samui and then the boat to KP. The train is great and you can buy a joint ticket that will get you there with no proplems. If the train is late, they have been known to hold up busses and put you on a later boat. At least that's what they did for us the last time I went down. The catch is getting your seat booked. If your in Thailand, no big deal, if your not then it can be tricky. The 85 or the 167 will get you to Surat in time to get the 8:00 am boat to the island, but if the trains are late they'll put you on the 9:00. |
