thyroid problems

I was reading about hypothyroid problems and some of the symptoms. You can have heart palpitations, fatigue, weight gain, etc.. even anxiety. Just thought I would mention this as something to look at.

Re: thyroid problems

Hi Judy and Everyone,
You are right on about the thyroid!! When your thyroid is not regulated properly it causes all kinds of symptoms!! Symptoms that mimic depression, panic and all sorts of things.
I take levoxyl everyday to keep mine regulated. Everyone should have their thyroid function tested especially if your having panic or depression.
Google "HYPERTHYROIDism symptoms" and you'll find tons of info about it.
Thanks again Judy for sharing and caring for us. This is a very important point.
Love,
Lori

Re: thyroid problems

I had this test done probably a couple of years ago. They said it was ok. I wonder if this problem can just develope at at any time. Does anyone know. I am wondering if I may need to get this checked again, since I have been feeling worse.

Love and prayers,
Tina

Re: thyroid problems

Thyroid problems run in our family. My Mom has hypothyroid and she needs to go in every so often to test the TSH level and adjust her medication accordingly. Yes, you should have it tested regularly. Thyroid levels change seasonally. Check it out, though. A few years back, my thyroid TSH level was 4.6, bordering the point of medical attention (here in Canada, anyways. A person, depending on the doctor, will not get treated unless your TSH level reaches 5. In the US, they treat you at 3!) A year later my level was at 2. It does change. And if you have others in your family wo have thyroid problems, your chances are higher for getting it, too.

Re: thyroid problems

Thanks for the info. My sister has a thyroid problem. She takes medication. My other sis. had a problem yrs. ago but her doc. will not do tests since the last test was ok. My problem is I don't have health insurance, so I am trying not to get anything done right now until I get it. But I want to get some tests and xrays done so bad. I am having a lot of problems. I did go to a gyn. and he wants to check hormone levels and thyroid and also check a fibroid I have but I don't want that huge bill hanging over my head.

I wonder why the difference in the levels in the USA and Canada. That is strange.

Take care,
Tina
