Today was awesome, I got to revist my pre-anime days past!
Dear Everyone! Today was awesome, I got to revist my past... I got to go back to an era before my adult life and all that it entails today. I got to be 6 years old all over again for a magical hour when Studio Robb alllowed me the use of his jeep to drive my mother over to Fort Carson Colorado. My family used to live there over 35 years ago when our dad was still young and in the army stationed there in charge of 3rd Armored Infantry Division's railroad marshalling yards. We drove all over the base and my mother,though our memory was dim at first, partically screamed "There It Is!"when we came across our old neighborhood street sign "Grant Court" and the actual building we used to live in! It was so special as memories there were so very good. My Mom and I still miss father alot since he passed away a few years back... but just that brief moment in front and in side our old home courtesy of the current young Soldier family that lives there now, we got to relive those good times with him alive and well briefly. :) I was even allowed to take pictures in mine and Brian's old room. (Hehehehe I even got to reminisce with "David" the dude in my room where I used to hide a stach of pilfered Playboys in the closet and lo and behold he smiled as he pulled his own PB collection out of the very same place! There were so few changes to our old home... it really was like a time capsule journey for us both. I have yet to even call my brothers back at home and tell them this in credible srory as it really was a pivitol part of our lives having lived there in the foot of Pike's Peak and Norad. Hell, mine and Brian's first crushes lived right next door to us.. Dianne for me and Dana for him. The back yard was still exactly the same so that twin bro's Pat & matt would recognoize the same spot where they climbed off the hobby horse together in a familiar family photgraph. We even found spots around the property where Kevin pulled so many funny pranks on family and friends all those many years ago. I really was choked up with emotion that we found this old home after all these years. All my emotions and worries just seemed to vanish as all my good times shared on the palyground with "Maggie" and an honest to God old friend named "Frank Burns" came back to me. (I cry some times when I watch the Jack Black movie "Shallow Hal" as the the little girl in the burn unit is exactly like my "Maggie"." I hope that life and love was kind to her as it was to me after all this time. She truly was a good girl.) Seeing Dad's old work station and going up to the old tanks that were currently new when I was a kid really made my day speacial with Mom. I am so glad her 35th reunion of the Japanese Ladies Church Bible Study group and Denver's NDK Anime con coincided and really allowed me to come and be here again with friends old and new. I would have never thought back in 1972 that I would someday move an hour north of the place where life traveling the world began for me and my family moving to Germany and our futures as grown men. It was so awesome to meet up with that tyke, his mom and dad, and his little brothers again today. I thank God again tonight for my loving wife, my family, and friends old and new through thick and thin that joined the future wild life of that mischiveious, big hearted little kid I left behind a long time ago there still playing with Maggie and Frank. You are so lucky Steve. Hitsuzen dayo. I know how you feel. God you must have been on Cloud 9. I imagine sometime in 30 or so years, I will come back to Japan and bring my family with me to show them where I lived. Hope everything else in life is going great. I miss you. Last night at Sukiyaki dinner with my family, we got to see old family pictures my Obachan had when Ojichan and Obachan visited with us as small kids in Colorado. I'll have to scan them and show them to Robb and friends then soon. :) Steve |

Returning to your roots is always a nice get away. Being a NYer (Yeah Steve, I'ma yank lol, well technically a Met :P) swinging by the first house is always a sight for sore eyes. The neighborhood has changed a bit since I was there last year (from permanently departing in 1990) acompanying (sp) my grandma and celebrating my 22nd. But being home never felt so good. |

Awesome Steve, since I was born and raised in Jacksonville and my mom is in Real Estate, I've moved quite a bit, but only in town, after a while, though I guess I don't have as much of an attachment to the places where I have lived, each home I lived long enough to get used to it, and then moved again. I can't stand moving, I'd rather find one place and stay put. My two first childhood homes are so close by, but they have changed so much, they're not even anything close to the same as they were. I am so glad you had that experience for yourself. |

I used to run around on the con circuit about 5-6 years ago, I understand you've met lots of people, really I'm nobody in the con circles, just the average old con goer, I'd say barely an acquaintance at best. I used to come up and say hey during cons and at the IC booth, and you'd tell me never to cut my hair, I used to be pretty buff, if you looked at my myspace on the website you'd probably recognize me. I ate dinner with K and Sachiko at Akon a long time ago when they wanted to know about a Jpop room, that was starting up that year... I haven't been to a con in many years..but sometimes I have the feeling I want to go and look around, it's no big deal really just wanted to say hi. |
