Steve Pearl, Rest In Peace my brother!
Steve Pearl, Rest In Peace my brother! Home for a bit and was about to write about the fun I had on the road in Turkey, Japan, Janicon and Bakaretsucon these past two months. Don't feel like writing now much since I have just heard the news today that Good ol' Steve Pearl lost his courageous bout with Diabetes. Steve was a really good man. He always made me smile whenever we were together as guests at so many cons in the past. With him I felt truly at home talking about real honest to god anime and manga. He never made me feel old and lost in today's fandom with his being my touchstone to all that was fun, decent, and memorable with our youth watching Japanese cartoons. He introduced me to so many fun folks both in the Industry and in Fandom at large. For him Shin Kurokawa and I set about at Katsucon 2007 to collect over a thousand get well cards from all his friends and strangers alike to help him recover. Some folks like Toshi Yoshida and Jan Frazier even made him Origami cranes as get well soon wishes. I collected so many that it took over a month to get them all sent off. I sincerely hope he recievd them all as awhile back there was trouble with the mail system, and then hosptal address issues. Either way I know that he knew our prayers and support were always with him to the very end no matter what. Lossing friends and family over time is never easy. I for one will miss him whenever I am at a show. So many of our friends and family are leaving us now. death sucks, but it is in deed a part of Life's journey. Steve is in good comapny now. He is up there with the hosts of hosts, king of all Otaku kings, the gods of Anime, Roy, Jeff, Big Ben, and so many other good pals that have gone on before us all. Remember Steve everytime you watch anime and continue to share good times in the brotherhood of fandom with everyone to honor his memory. God be wih you all always. Steve, rest in hard earned, well deserved peace always! Yours always sincerely, Steve & Nikki Bennett & and all the folks that have the pleasure of calling you friend. This is a wake up call that we are all getting older and are all not so immortal as we think we are. I need to get myself checked too soon as I too have been feeling beaten down lately despite my active lifestyle and walking for exercise. |
