Chess Board Glue

I have watched your video on making a ChessBoard. What glue did you use to join the strips of wood? How long did you clamp it.? I also have a unique fold up chessboard. It is made of 64 1" squares mounted on felt. I want to make the same board but using 2 inch squares. What would be a good long lasting glue to join wood to a fabric.

Thank you
Tony

Re: Chess Board Glue

Any typical wood glue will do fine for gluing the wooden strips together. No glue will work for the 2nd glue-up (the final checkerboard look) as far as I know due to the joint being end-grain to end-grain. If you were to drop it on the floor it would come apart. I'm making a board now and intend to glue the strips to a plywood substrate for this reason.

I did my first glue-up with normal pipe clamps. Whatever you do, do a dry run (no glue!) the first time!
