I'm trying to correct the misconception that Admiral Rodney (or, worse, Clerk of Eldin) was responsible for the breaking of the line maneuver at the Battle of the Saints. My ancestor, Sir Howard Douglas, provided ample evidence in both the Quarterly Review and the United Service Journal (later collected in his book, Naval Evolutions) that his father, Captain (later Rear-Admiral) Sir Charles Douglas, is the one to whom that famous maneuver (and thus the victory) should be credited.
