I basically have no idea where to really begin. My husband and I have only been married 1.5 years. We have an amazing 9 month old baby girl together. I want to file for divorce due to domestic violence that started when the baby was 2 weeks old, the last incident being on the 11/26/10. He has admitted to others (counselors)that he has hit me, verbally belittled me, and even forced me to have sex with him. I have been so emotionally distant from him since the first incident, rarely sleeping in the same bed as him (maybe 2hrs at most 2-3 nights per week). Since the last incident, I've moved to the guest room completely. I have no clue where to start in this process!
I would like to file for temp child custody and move back to AR as I have no family/friends/support system here while waiting for the divorce to finalize. Is domestic violence enough to gain temp child custody?
Do I file in VA (current residency)? or can I file in AR if im granted temp child custody and relocate? Is domestic violence with spouse admitting he did those things grounds for divorce?! Do I have to be separated to qualify for that type of divorce?! I just want this mess to be over as soon as possible. What he has done to me has taken a serious toll on me in every way possible
Sorry if this isnt the right place to post this. I have absolutely no idea where to go for advice. Any help would be grateful
Is there a violence crises center near you? Where I live, we have Turning Point. They'll help answer all of your questions, or lead you to someone who can answer you. Also, they can help with the problems associated with domestic violence, including how to leave when the violence occurs.
