We split that and that is what the Lawyers decided upon. It was in the divorce agreement how the taxes should be handled. Ask your Lawyer if there is a cancelled check or some other type of proof/something in writing to prove he paid the taxes just to make sure everything's ok. I wouldn't think anyone would be getting any type of refund(s). If people don't pay their taxes/file on time, there are penalties and interest. It is doubtful there is any refund and I don't think it is worth going to trial over this. If there is a refund, it is generally split between the couple.

If the three years were during the marriage, it is a marital debt. You got the benefit of his income during that period and you are partially responsible for the taxes.
