LG: I was very low income when my ex filed for divorce. Visit your local food pantry, shop at thrift shops for household items and clothes, cut back to basic cable. I also cut OnStar and Tivo from my monthly budget. You can also shop at wholesale stores for food and stock up. Take a look at your budget and see what can go and what has to stay. There are also places like the Salvation Army which help with budgeting. Look in the phone book to see what services are available for low income women. You should be able to get child support. Talk to a Family Lawyer. Sometimes the first visit is free. If you cannot keep a Lawyer, see if there is someone to give free legal help at the local women's services center or Bar Association. Look at the divorce laws on line and learn about them. The Judge decides the rest.
