Really confusing, sticky custody situation...

My ex and I are finally divorced and we have 50/50 shared custody of our son.

He's about to remarry and I'm engaged, however I recently found out I'm pregnant.

Here is where the sticky part comes to play:

My fiance lives across the country, we weren't planning on marrying until he moved back in two years (to some this may sound ridiculous, but it's honestly not that bad, so spare me the relationship advice.)
So, we have decided it would be best for our family as a whole to relocate to where he is.

Id just like to know if anyone has been in a similar situation, where they have married and needed to move out of state with shared custody and how the outcome went.

My son is my life and while I don't want his father to be absent I know the life I provide him is more stable and loving. I would be destroyed if the judge sides in favor of my ex receiving full custody.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Really confusing, sticky custody situation...

You are making choices that have consequences. Unfortunately, it sounds like the choices YOU made were in YOUR self interests and the negative consequences will be felt by others. If you want to move, ethically, you SHOULD plan to give up your 50:50. That said, US family courts are generally strongly biased in favor of women and against men, so legally, you stand a good chance of using that bias to your advantage and taking your son away from his dad. If that's the kind of person you are and what you want, go for it - the courts will likely help you take him away. Statistically speaking, your odds are about 85% you'll prevail and get to take your son.
