Divorce is final. He still won't leave. I'm changing the locks.

I spoke with my local police department yesterday morning to ask (after I explained the situation), if I change the locks on the home I was awarded in the divorce and the ex calls them because he can't get in (he is still on the mortgage and deed, but I was awarded sole possession) will they come out and allow him to "break-in". I was told they would not. What I'm worried about is that if he doesn't call them and just breaks in, they won't come out to remove him if I call. He is under the belief that he doesn't HAVE to leave until I get his name off the mortgage or sell. I met with a lawyer yesterday who recommended changing the locks, but also continuing with the eviction process. I just can't have him there for another month. I have panic attacks going into my own home when he's there.

cj: Sorry this is happening to you. My Lawyer put the house in my name shortly after the divorce - hope this happens quickly for you! I think the Lawyer has done the right thing so far. Has he taken his belongings out of the house? I let my ex take his stuff. If it is court ordered you have the house then that is enforceable and the police can remove him. If you have paperwork stating the house was awarded to you solely, this will help a lot.
