Vertical Spinners

Hi,

Who uses vertical spinners? If so any colors you prefer?

My concern is that my uni-troll - the last part of the cable from my release is a hand pull into the boat. This is not my idea of fun. How reliable is this cable - will I lose downrigger weights?

Curious. Thanks.

Re: Vertical Spinners

Been using verticals with 12 lb weights for over 10 yrs without a problem, I prefer silver/blue, AJ Bait has a bunch of new colors, I’ve got to check them out.

Re: Re: Vertical Spinners

Do you prefer the vertical or the horizontal spinners? Do you run the horizontal from the back of the ball.

Re: Re: Re: Vertical Spinners

I have run both types not at the same time but I tend to favor the verticals. When running the verticals, I place a lure just above them and 3 to 5 ft back and some times stack an additional lure 5 ft up and 8 ft back.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Vertical Spinners

I have used the verticles for 4 years with 10lb and 12lb balls. Never lost a ball off them. I always take it easy placing the ball in the water because I have Blacks release on my cable the verticle is attached to. The Blacks prevents me from reeling the cable up close enough to pulley to deter the thump when the ball goes in the water. I have silver/blue and gold/orange. Silver blue outfishes the gold/orange. Some days the rig is red hot, some days stone cold. Some days they like it close (6ft out) some days farther out (15-20ft out). Very rare that I don't have one of these in the water even if it is slow day. I have tried attaching a horizontal run to the ball in conjunction with the verticle but never took a fish that way. Somedays like, Gray Ghost mentions) I run the lure higher above the verticle if I have trouble getting bites.

I don't dare not using them.

I know what the horizontal "bell" or spinners are----can't say I have seen vertical ones. Does someone have a photo?

This picture has both a vertical and horizontal blades attached to a downrigger ball.

Is there a special clip that you use on the verticle one where it attaches to the cable? Thanks for the photo.

The clip you normally hook onto the downrigger ball will clip to the top of the vertical blades. At the lower end of the vertical blades will be another snap to hook the downrigger ball onto. (Comes with the setup... no need to add a snap)

Thanks for the info. I have used the horizontal one in line with the lure. Havn't seen vertical.

Do you use these verticals all year or just later in the season???

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Vertical Spinners

I have not had good luck with them up top (top 15 feet or so) so I don't get into using them much until mid late June. Maybe some other guys have though.

I only started using the horizontal spinners last year. The first day I was using them was in April and at 10' down [about 8'-10' back from ball] I got a hit and I just happened to see the flash of the fish.I thought that was pretty cool. This year I'm going to try the vertical one I got at the gathering.I was told you can use both at the same time.I'll give it a try.
