Unless you can get Thomson or Thomas Cook to arrange it for you it will be a minefield of Greek bureaucracy;birth certificates to be translated and authenticated by British and Greek consuls, divorce papers (if necessary) ditto. Try the travel companies first - good luck!
Hi, we got married in Thassos July 2004, and did all the planning ourselves, which was fairly hard work I must say. None of our travel agents over here in Guernsey wanted to help. We knew people in Thassos having been there before to give us the Town Hall number in Thassos Town. We were told you could only get married in Thassos Town anyway. We found the Greek Embassy in London extremely helpful and we got all our paperwork translated into Greek and authorised by the Embassy before we went, turned up (literally) on the doorstep of the Town Hall as soon as we arrived to book the Wedding for later on in the holiday and the soooooo relaxed people in the office did originally ask where we wanted to get married and we asked for Pefkari/Limenaria region as we were staying there and then they told us maybe not possible as we didn't want the full on Orthodox wedding when you're paraded through the streets and the long ceremony (as our children came age 6 & 1), so they said to come to the Town Hall and pick a date. Of which we did and the Mayor wedded us himself and then our Thomas Cook rep took us to some amazing ruins to have our photos taken, and walked through the town (some experience, all the locals wishing you good luck, congratulations etc) it really is something special. But apparently the rep did tell us off for not telling them before we went out and we did explain that we tried and tried, but I think if you could get hold of their telephone number of the Thomas Cook HO in Thassos Town and speak to Jo, she could perhaps help a bit more than they did us. Oh and then you have to dash the paperwork over to Kavala for stamping sometime after that. Oh and translator would be helpful, but your rep should find you one of those as the Thassian Holidays office is next door to Thomas Cook office and the lady there who was Fiona did our translating as the Mayor only speaks Greek.
If you would like any further info please do not hesitate to contact me.

Janet..

Hi Janet,
We are hoping to get married in Thassos in September of 2007. We have found a company called heliotopos.net that will help with the wedding arrangements but they are quite pricy. We have thought of organising things ourselves, but where do you get flowers from? What about transport to and from the town hall? Where CAN you get a translator? What paperwork do you actually need to have translated and by whom, both before you go AND when you're there? Can someone please help, this is driving me nuts!!!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can,
Kindest regards
Garry
