Please stop what you are doing and say an immediate prayer for the good Sisters from the Benedictine community in St. Marys, PA (that's ELK County!!)
For those who do not know, the Benedictine Mother House in St. Mary's was the first Benedictine community in the US. All other Benedictine communities are a branch from this original Mother House. For over 150 years, these women have served our diocese as well as spread throughout the country.
Due to numerous contributing factors - many of which are politically based and not representative of Christ's love for all - the community is now threatened with closure and the Sisters who remain will have to scatter and go with other communities -IF THEY ARE ACCEPTED - REALLY???
Due to the decline in vocations, there are only a few Sisters left in St. Mary's - most are elderly, have lived all of their adult lives in St. Mary's in community with each other. Their only wish is to be able to remain there and die there with their Sisters.
