Re: A "Public House" test of memory

Ruislip-Northwood Through the Ages quotes a bill for seven people at an inn in 1331. The total was 2 shillings and threepence farthing for the night. This included bread, beer, wine, meat, potage, candles, fuel, beds and fodder for their horses.

The writer, Walter Druett, says "This, in modern money, is about 56 shillings."

"Modern" was when the book was published in 1957.
