Have to agree that the tube station signs do seem a poor waste of money as surely they could be like the old flap info panels on main line railways and announce the nigh on arrival of a train even if they don't do the more central tube station announcers list of next few trains.
At the stations you are normally told "there is a good service on......" so basically they are running to time.
Of course I once waited 30 mins for a Hammersmith & City Line train at West Ham...and that was being spun out as "a good service" so that is only as good as the information the person making the annoucements gets, as I am sure they are more frequent than that.
Very annoying as I let several trains pass that I COULD have taken and changed mid trip, on my way to Paddington.
