Re: Ruislip Manor Underground Station

An interesting article but I was surprised to not see a photo of the statin as it was before the 1938 construction. Access to the platforms was by ramps on each side of the tracks and there was a small wooden ticket office at the road on the north side. It was easier to run up the ramp to catch a train than it was to run up the stairs of the new station. I remember the 1940 flood but had always thought it was earlier. There were pound notes floating at surface all over the water and there was policeman with his bicycle guarding the place! As part of the reconstruction, the bridge over Victoria Road was replaced. There was no interruption of train service. The new bridge was rolled into place after the last rain had gone. Many of my friends were taken to see the event but I was not allowed to stay up that late.
