Re: Kids running for buses risking lives

Hi Angela,

I've been to several of these type of incident you describe. But the age alone isn't usually a factor. All ages can become task-focused when running for buses and the like.

Geographical location and time of day only would make it more applicable to children. IE - School in and out times, plus being near to those schools. But there is usually good signage around to warn drivers and all schools start and finish roughly the same time. Hopefully parental parking hasn't been a contributing factor.

The age of the pedestrian is certainly a factor when injuries are a result of collisions though. The extremes of age make injury more likely to be more serious, from an otherwise identical collision.

Note that I haven't used the word "accident" here. Collisions usually involve neglect or carelessness on one or both parties to a degree. The exact degree of blame etc involves impartial investigation and several versions. Usually the one who shouts the loudest, seen the least in my experience.

Let's hope these continue to remain rare occurences for all concerned.

Thanks for raising it here.

John
