Re: Children's chemistry sets

An interesting piece Sharon. Brings back lots of memories. At a local grammar school, 'hands on' chemistry was part of life. We handled sodium ferrocyanide and ferricyanide regularly. Nobody wore gloves or eye cover and I dont recall any injuries. How the teachers controlled us all I dont remember except that certain practices were 'punishable'. One teacher had the practical ability of Mr Bean but survived until retirement. Many of us had home chemistry sets and stationary steam engines as well! It is a shame to deny kids these useful experiences but I agree proper oversight is important.
