Jenny
Thanks for the interesting gen on Northolt (Aerodrome, as I remember it in 1945 when the family returned to South Ruislip when war ended.) We lived in Deane Ave which was only a stones throw from the Airport and hence the decision of my Father for the family to temporarily move away to be on the safe side while he served overseas for the duration.
Northolt has some happy memories for me during those early years. Not sure exactly what year it was but soon after the war, Northolt opened it's doors to the public, and Dad took me there where I was just in awe. I am delighted that Northolt will be spared during the developments you mentiond.
Jenny, do you know if there were any pictures taken during the recent Battle of Britain remeberence activities? If there were, I would love to know from whom I could aquire them. (newspapers etc)
Last week I returned from a vacation in Britain and during that time, visited the Churchill War Rooms in London. I picked up a couple of books which are well worth a mention. "Boys at War" which I have since read, and "Under the Wire" which I have just started.
You mentioned the ATC Ruislip. I didn't know there was an ATC Squadron in Ruislip. If I recall, when I joined in the mid 50's, I had to go to the Harrow 1454 Squadron. Do you know when the Ruislip Squadron was formed?
Well, I could go on for hours on this subject so had better curb my entheusiasm for fear that I would bore you to death!!! maybe continue another time :)
Hope you are well Jenny.
Robert
