weekend report

been a year of small salmon on my lake, just a couple good ones. things finally changed this weekend and it was odd, 77 degree water and the fish were all on top,15 to maybe 20 feet fishing three to four colors at up to 3 mph. had ten good fish up to 4 pounds sat, sunday we were over 20 by 8 in the morning. all the little ones we have been catching this year must have stayed low. real slow after 8 both days. im not seeing the big schools of yoy this year, im hoping its still early but not expecting things to be moving in a positive direction for next year, fish are fat but the yoy just isnt the same as in years past, very dispersed and not many to be found. anyone seeing this in the other lakes, can find the bigger smelts down low at a hundred feet or so, but those schools that hang at thirty and drift to the surface seem to be missing. next week will probably slow down again, frustrating becaus i dont like to fish just for togue

Re: weekend report

Fished mooselookmeguntic last week. Its loaded with bait.It was deep aways within 20 ft. of bottom. 60 to 100 ft. down. I think that the warm weather is keeping. The fish and the bait deep. Unless there is a insect hatch. Or early A.M.

Re: weekend report

asked the same ? last week on the YOY on both boards. Never got a reply!

We caught 1 salmon 3 saturdays ago that spit some up but that was the only one. Haven't been fishing since but am ithching to get on the water.

Re: weekend report

this is what im seeing, the bottom darker spots are around 100 feet, i think those are the adult smelt, i see those everywhere in the lake, the top cloud i believe is the yoy, very few on the lake, this cloud tapered up into ten feet under the surface but there was just too much glare to get a pic. water temp was 77 and the pic was taken at noon on a hot bright day. i dont think adult smelt will be in water that warm, they must be the yoy and they are few and far between this year on sebago, last year when the water was this warm that school was 3 miles long, maybe its just too early just yet

Re: weekend report

i remember the first year that i fished there (2006) there would be a constant ribbon of them deep on the depth finder. Like you say it was all over the lake. At first I thought it was my down rigger weights but they were up alot higher. Couldn't believe how long a stretch it would run.
