Re: Ice is going on Lake Winni...

The old fisherman
John,
There is still a lot of snow and ice up here. Cotton Cove is still fairly white with about 20 feet open from shore. I still have over a foot of snow and about 4 feet where the snow came off the roof.
Still winter up here.
There is open water in Little Squam at the mouth of the river, but I don't think it is open to the Ashquam Marina.
I would guess at least a week, but could be wrong.
Is the part for your new boat???

Louis

New boat wont be in til first week in June, will use The Barge for the month of May if we have ice out. Nit sure why but I'm not that cranked up about getting the boat in the water this year. It's sitting in the driveway, all cleaned up and ready to be dressed up with fishing gear, been looking at it all week andhaven't done a thing.

I'm pretty agitated at the Marina too, I had a sliht vibration last fall and had them change the prop. still vibrated so they thought perhaps the prop shaft was bent, "no big deal" they said, we will do it at winter labor rate and put it back on in the spring. Well, "no big deal" is 500.00 so far and the lower end is in NH and the boat here still, so it aint over yet, they have to put it back on yet, more $$$$$. I also gave them a list of stuff (change filters, oil, etc) I wanted to do when they winteriized it, they only did a few things (I think)and plan to do the rest this spring, more $$$$ and time. I wonder what happened to the customer deciding what and when he wanted work done.

So for the first year ever, my boat isn't in tip top shape ready to get wet at ice out. All in all and with a bleak Salmon season coming, I guess I'm bummed out, looking forward to ice out, but boat wont be ready, ugh..

Looks like a warm week coming up, ice should start to go next week.

Big John

Re: Ice is going on Lake Winni...

I just had a little "marine maintenance" sticker shock myself. Dropped the boat off on Wed at my guy asking for a "spring check up" which normally includes oil change, filters, new plugs, grease bearings, charge batteries and a few other small ticket items. It cost me 427 to pick it up today...OUCH! Glad I didn't pull the trigger on a mast/planer board system...needed that cash just to get the boat in the water.

Guess I'll be running the same rigs as last year. I'm off on Monday and MIGHT go up depending on what I'm seeing on the lake cams. Feel very certain that ice out will come this week (early this week) so I'm thinking of burning a vacation day on Friday.
