Just wondering if anyone on here has had trouble launching or taking out of harrilla landing on long island due to work barges blocking the ramp.I always fish during the week and 9 times out of 10 there is a barge parked in the way of the ramp.It is my understanding that this is a state owned access to the lake. The first rule at a launch facility is not to obstruct a ramp.
Last year I fished all day and came into the ramp at 7:30 in the evening only to have a barge completely clogging the ramp.I pollitely asked when he would be done and he rudely answered " I will be done When I get done".I then had to take my boat to the bridge and walk the 2.5 miles back to harrilla to get my truck.I was finnally off the water at 9:00 and he was still parked there.Again the other day I arrived in the morning to find a barge parked blocking the ramp. The gentleman acted like he owned the property and only when I wrote down his bow numbers did he move so I could launch. This was 7:00 am and his delivery was at 9:00.He told me there was other places I could launch.Afterwards he told me if I had a fancy bass boat with pretty graphics he would not have moved.
If this is a private ramp then it should be posted so.I know it is not private but these individuals are treating it that way.taking advantage of a public access.
It is thier right to use the access but some kind of schedule or some supervision is needed for this sight so it is not abused. This is not thier property. They should be required to abide by the same rules as the rest of us.It would be like me leaving my boat and truck and trailer halfway in the ramp and leaving it there for 2-3 hours until I was ready to launch it. A little common courtesy goes a long way, I was not shown this at any point with any of the barge workers and that is why I am going to pursue this.If I am off on my facts about this being a public ramp please correct me.
