You can untwist the antenna spring without damaging the spring; I’ve done it several times.

Or, you can install an RCA audio type connector inline. I have a Depth Raider and they use RCA connectors inline and had one go bad. Went to Radio Shack for a replacement, I made it work for a repair, would not use RS RCA connectors again, would look around for something better.
