I have a "Happy Troller" all aluminum plate that bolts to the fins on my 75 hp outboard. It has a cord you pull to unlock it to put it up or down. It will cut the speed down to about .5 mph. I eventually purchased a 6 hp kicker to save on gas. I still use the trolling plate if it's windy as I can bump up the speed to keep on course. Before the plate I tried dragging five gallon buckets and also a sock but they were a pain and always in the way, you'll be happy with a plate or a kicker!
