I run hardware until mid-summer then I mix hardware and flies. I have 4-5 colors that I have absolute faith in and a few others that are red hot or stone cold. So with 4 lines, I put on my 4 "old faithfuls". After about an hour, I "fire' the one that produced least and start rotating in the hot/cold lures at 1/2 hour increments. In none of those hit, I begin rotating in my experimental colors. If a lure isn't hit in 1/2 hour, I try to bring it in to check it (many times, it's picked up some weeds or a micro smallie) then put it back up and restart the clock. Low count fish days are almost always days I'm too lazy to keep up on checking lures for weeds/small fish and changing out unproductive lures. I truely believe that a good couple of hours should leave you feeling a little tired.
