sewn on bait

I need help with sewing on smelt. Do you thread a wire with a small crimp at the end through the vent and then pull the flouro back through with a small treble that goes up the vent? How do you tie off the lips. Do you go up through the bottom lip or vice versa?

Re: sewn on bait

do you tie your own flies, cut the eye off the hook as well as about i third the shank. wind some threed on the shank with the hook in the vice and then tie your mono to that making it nice and smooth. i put a little superglue on the back portion of thread. now for the fish, push the hook thru both lips going thru twice which will leave a loop in the mono. if its a big shiner i will then push the hook thru the gills and then thru the skin in three places going from front to back. pull the line tight from the loop side and then tighten the loop. ive only done this a few times so there may be an easier way, i usually buy those sliding store bought rigs, and i like the one with the orange balls on them
