School Days ...

So I had 2 hours to kill before work this morning. Decided to wet a line in Lakeport. Got to my spot and for once no one was around. Looked down in the water which was just below my feet considering where I was. The water is at least 10-15 feet deep and flowing good. Before even the first cast I spot a fish. Then another and I think I can make out 1 or 2 more. For the next hour and a half I threw worms, live smelt both with wieght and a bobber, without with a bobber and some wieght, without a wieght or a bobber. NOTHING!!! Not ever a curious look. I threw 3 types of D.B's and 2 types of Top Guns, all different colors, fast, slow, jig, no jig, stop and go, straight retrieve. STILL NOTHING!!! Well okay maybe I think I heard one of them laugh. Fustrated no hair left and 10 minutes till I have to leave for work and the sun was shining right into the water. Are you ready for this? 22 f@#!*?! Salmon just below my feet side by side one infront of the other all snickering at me. I've never seen soo many Salmon together like that. My 12 year old later told me after I told her of my experience that, "The fish wouldn't bite cause they were all in school." I think I send her to bed early tommorow. All wasn't lost though. The all famous just one more cast scores a 17 inch rainbow. And would you believe the only bite I got and landed had 2 other leaders and hooks in his mouth plus mine. Ahh fishing I love it !! "They wre all in school." Gimme a freaken break.

LOL Hey there M.T, Don't ya just love it when then kid's come up with stuff like that LOL My Daughter does it all the time Usually around a bunch of people though Funny thing is, if she'd of been with ya she would have probably caught them with nothing on her hook LOL Take CAre God Bless and Tight Lines Dave!!

Re: School Days ...

Most likely the fish you were trying to catch were suckers.. They don't bite they just sit there like dummys.. Don't feel bad many a fisherman try to back the sucker this time of year.. I think that's where they got there name..

Re: Re: School Days ...

MT, if you were fishing where I think you were... those were suckers. They've been there a couple days now. Try fishing 10 feet behind them with a single white salmon egg. It'll look just like a sucker egg and thats what those rainbows and salmon are eating right now. Smallll hook and single split shot works great...

Re: Re: Re: School Days ...

I remember a few years ago when I had the "Salmon P Wiggle", a 14' Duranautic, My son Mark and I tied the boat to some Alders (before they cleared it all out) where the river enters Silver Lake. Right off the stern was a deep hole that held a huge school of Salmon. We could see them clearly. That day they were hitting! All we had to do was drop a crawler down and BANG! And we would have a Salmon. We caught 14 of them before they wised up. I'll never forget it!

Re: Re: Re: Re: School Days ...

Guys I'm not a donkey. I definately know the difference from a sucker and a Salmon. The water was clear as can be and these were without a doubt Salmon.
