The past two weekends I've been lucky enough to get out on winni with brian aka "reel it up". Each time we've gone out I've been lucky enough to bring home a salmon and last week a nice rainbow also. After gutting the fish that I have brought home I have found some kind of parasitic worms crawling around on my cutting board! WTF are these? and is this any cause for alarm? Are the fish ok to eat? from what I can tell the worms are in the stomach cavity but not in the meat at all but im not sure about eating them now. Whats your thought guys? Any info at all would be great. Good luck to all and tight lines!
John Viar from the Fish and Game posted some info a few weeks back. These are parasitic worms. But fear not the worms are only in the stomach not the flesh. I believe he said not to fear and be sure to thoroghly cook year catch.
Salmo posteda link to help prepeare your fish properly :

Also type in just tapeworm and you'll find John Viar's post
I noticed them in the fish we cleaned today from Squam. I did read the post from John Viar, but I still wonder why see did not see these at all last year and now we are all seeing them from all the local Lakes ????
John Viar also said they are not harming the growth of the fish, I'll tell you the fish we caught today certainly were plump and 100% healthy looking. But where were the worms last year ?
I suppose if Fish and Game is not alarmed, then neither should we.
If I'm not mistaken he's got relatives up this way, and just like me he's got Frenchmen in his blood LOL We're great at telling stories LOL Take Care God Bless and Tight Lines Dave!!!
