Asking a favor here. Currently at fish and game there is a proposed rule change that would open up 31 trout ponds and rivers in NH for no closed season for Fly Fishing only. While I am an avid Fly Fisherman I strongly oppose this change and you should too. At a hearing at Fish and game last week it was said by a proponent of this change (A Trout Unlimited Chapter from Manchester) that this would be only the first step. After they get this then they want to go after lakes managed for lake trout and salmon, i.e., Winnipesaukee, Winnisquam, Newfound, etc., etc. This would eventually ruin our fishery. While I know that you guys mostly fish the big lake, the time to stop this group is now. If they win here, your lake will be their next target. Please take the time to write to fish and game and voice your opinion. You have until May 15th, and then fish and game will vote. Fall is when the fish spawn - they need a vacation from us fishermen too. They will be bigger and better if we just leave them alone and get them in the spring.
First of all I do agree with you and will let them know my thoughts.
On the other hand I feel that it is most likely an excercise in futility after just going thru this similiar thing on the hunting season. They had "proposed" changes on hunting season and held 3 "Hearings" on it and received very vocal input against several issues and passed the proposal anyway.
Maybe the guys on the fishing side of things will listen to our voices better..
Soo...please do speak up and let them know your feelings ...I think we need more voices and support!
