Re: Re: Re: Boating safety

You can also go to NHF&G website and follow their link to the boater safety test.
Both Becky and I took the online test and found it to be common sense information. The only thing I had to study was the coastal marking/buoy systems.
They have been discussing removing the online test as too many people have admitted to cheating... either looking up answers on another computer or just having someone else take the test. Which really isn't too smart... the whole reason for the test is to make sure you can safely navigate on our waterways... Safe for yourself AND others. I agree with F&G, if you can't pass this test without cheating you're possibly a danger to other boaters. (No wonder we see people going around the wrong side of buoys and sailing along through no wake zones.)
If anyone out there doesn't have this boating certificate, you should seriously consider getting it soon. I have been asked twice this spring to show my certificate by Marine Patrol during routine checks. Not sure what the fine would be without it, but for $25 to get it, I'm glad I had it.
Safe boating to all...

Re: Boating safety

John..
I read in the paper last week that the state decided to end the online test. The article said you could still take the course online, but would have to go to a designated location for a proctored test. I'm not sure if they already have ended it or not.

Re: Re: Boating safety

I talked with them and it ends on line either Januray or February. I read the information and took the practice test and got an 85, I can't believe some of the stupid questions I got wrong.

Allot of emphasis is on channel markers, "stand on boat" or "give way boat", boat lights, what each color means, how to approach different lights observed, etc. And just like High School and College, quite a few Jap (trick) questions.

But I agree with Craig (Slipknot) it's in your best interest to take it, cheat a little or not, you have to look up the answers to get em right, so you are still learning the correct rules, etc. Having someone else take it for you is not worth disscussion.

PS: Thanks guys forgetting the board back up, "Dave from up North" (alias Donkey Dave)was e mailing me 10 times a day for support, he was having a rough time with no message board. I'm hoping Adrien got the photos of last weeks fish caught for my Squam report, but he may be out of town. Maybe AJ or someone can do it for me ??????????
