I see from another post (on trolling plates) that you installed an alternator on your kicker. I have a Merc 2000 4 cycle, 5 hp and have wanted to do the same for a long time. Where did you get the alternator and how much did it set you back? Was it easy to install? Or did you have it installed at a shop?
Sorry for the delay, just got back from Moosehead. Go to Irwin Marine on Rt. 102, Litchfield, they will be able to help you for price. Do you have a manual for the motor; it should show an alternator as an accessory. If you have any problem installing it, I can give you a hand.
Gus
Thanks for the reply.
Hope Moosehead Lake was good to you!
I live near Irwin. I'll go and check the price.
Did you have them install it? Or, did you do it yourself.
I have the small manual they give you when you buy the motor and I noticed it is listed as an option. I should pony-up and buy the larger ("Climers" type) book which would be a lot more useful.
I figure with a fishfinder and the trollking running it would help keep the battery up as it's my kicker that runs all the time (not the big motor.)
Gary,
I installed the alternator myself, as I recall it was not difficult, this was 15 years ago…memories fade and everything looks rosy now. Ask them at Irwin what is involved in the installing.
