hot smelt

one called still fishing said to me that people on this forum also fish lake champlain and I could post results that would be interest to lake winni fisherman, Well I just wanted to say that I purchased some lures from Al's place and he included a "smelt Gun" in the order, I tried it out on champlain and got 9 salmon that day, not all were on the smelt gun the copper/orange top gun boated a few, but the smelt gun proved to be the best lure for that day anyway,, so if ya come to champlain don't forget to stop to al's on the way and get the smelt gun, "it works",and give me a shout on the radio (ch68) when you get here

Re: hot smelt

hey rockbottom i think we talked on newfound last week good to here your getting the salmon. what were the colors on that smelt gun was it all white with copper back. caught a 22.5" laker on newfound last night spitting up pin smelt all over the boat some still alive to so i swicthed to a smelt gun but got nothing (white/copper back)also just to be sure the smelt gun is about 1" long?smaller than a top gun?

Re: Re: hot smelt

That was a different rockbottom. This is the one you spoke with at Newfound. We ended up getting a 20" salmon on Newfound that day around noontime. Caught a couple rainbows yesterday. May try Winn next Saturday. Want to try a few good spots before my daughter comes up August 4 from Denver,Co. She wants to get in alot of fishing while shes here. She really misses it. See you at Newfound

Re: Re: Re: hot smelt

Hey Rockbottom..Thanks for the post and thanks for help when we asked on the other board.
Were you fishing in Converse Bay Area?
Kripple II is on vacation for two weeks after this week and I know he will be heading up your way. He had pretty good luck a couple of weeks ago , north of Champlain Bridge...up as far as Button Bay. Mostly on DB's and TG's.
How fast do you troll for salmon up there. We have found as fast as 3-3.2 to work well which is faster than we go down at Winni.
If you are ever coming this way give us a shout!
