Wed. Salt water fishing report (the RFP's got the blues)

Took Bluefin and White Cap down to Hampton. We started toward the end of the incoming tide. Went north to try one of my favorite rockpiles but only got a few schoolies. Disappointed because in the past have taken some nice cows from that spot. Bait was coming up all over the place. Put diamond jigs right into the bait but they wouldn't touch them. (guess the bait was too busy) Flipped herring chunks to get schoolies. Headed to the Merrimack and anchored in the river . Got about 30 Stripers but no keepers. (close, but no cigar!) Biggest Striper was just over 27", caught by Bluefin. Several 26" fish. Got interrupted by the blue fish for a while. (Thought we had our keepers on for a while) Had doubles on and White Cap's was a 30" and mine was 31". What a battle that was in the current of the river!! Landed one more blue and had a couple that bit off the hooks. (50# test leader) After the bite slowed down headed out to the mouth to drift, but the wind made it too difficult. We anchored up and White Cap's first cast got stuck on the bottom. (so we thought!) It was a fish! Must have been a 50# Striper! Had to chase it down. Pulled the anchor, Cal's almost out of line, but we finally got loose. Caught up with the fish. "Get the BIG net!!" Then I saw that it wasn't the trophy we expected. I thumbed the 25" Striper.:0( That current was brutal! Headed back to Hampton. All in all an interesting and fun day.

Sounds like a real fun day, good for you RFP's, I can picture what you decribed very clearly.

The ocean can play some nasty tricks on ya for sure. When the wind is going the reverse direction of the tide that is very tough to deal with. 3-years before I put on the fuel injected 115 evinrude I had a 70 carb motor. The river brought me to a complete stop at full throttle!!!!!!!! Now I have some horsepower to help out a little!!

Hey guys,

I fished Joppa Flats on Sunday night too. I caught 3 Bluefish including one decent sized one. I caught the fish on a Tube and Worm Rig. I also pulled in some small stripers but no keepers. I saw a guy on Friday night at Joppa that had caught 2 keeper stripers on the same rig. Saturday morning I went to the tackle shop and got my own tube rigs. Oh yeah and I caught something real large in the channel at Joppa. I had it on for about 5 seconds and then it snapped my abu garcia rod right in half. I don't know if it was a bluefish or a striper but about 10 minutes before that I had caught a 30" blue on the same rod.

Happy Fishing to all!
