A place to start in determining the length of lead from the dodger to the lure is 2.5 to 3 times the length of the dodger that you’re going to use. Keeping in mind that dodgers are very speed dependent for the amount of action they produce, too fast and they will roll and become a flasher, so you should try the dodger at the side of the boat at the speed to be used and evaluate the action and adjust accordingly.
All sizes will work, typically the larger the dodgers are used at slower speeds, different manufactures have different action to speed sensitivities
