which fishfinder

was thinking of putting one in the back of the boat, what in your opinion is the better one for this type of fishing. im using a hummingbird right now which is ok, but doesnt show whats on the bottom well, and will never show the thermocline no matter what sensitivity its set at. i hear you guys are having some problems with the lowrence, having to do soft and hard reboots, having a hard time setting them up etc. are they worth the money verse the problems and which model would suit me best.they seem to show more details than what i have. i dont need the gps features as the hand held i use is primarily used for speed only and i dont much use it as it was designed. i have until next spring to decide so if there are problems with them maybe i should wait?
