More on Holiday safety, a word of caution.

I just want to remind everyone that during this festive time of year to be extra careful with children around candles which seem to be gaining more and more popularity, not just at Holiday seasons, but year round.

Last night my 4 year old granddaughter's shirt caught fire giving her 2nd and perhaps a few 3rd degree burns on her side mid-body and under arm, no burns on her face. We feel she was very lucky little girl, it could have been allot worse and she is in perhaps the best hospital in the world for burns on children, The Shriners Hospital in Boston.

We are very optimistic for a full recovery with minimal or no scaring, but time will tell of course. A full trauma team will evaluate her prognosis and prescribe a treatment plan today, she could be released as early as today or she could spend a week or two at the Shriners, we just don't know.

By the way, it was her birthday yesterday and this morning she asked her dad David for her birthday cake and wanted to talk to her big sister (7) on the telephone, etc. she wasn't in any obvious pain, so we are feeling somewhat relieved at her attitude.

It would be wonderful if she could be home for "Christmas", but we realize if not, she is in the best hands possible.

Please no replies to this, I only wanted to remind people these beautiful, festive candles can
very dangerous around children (and adults as well) if caution is not taken. I think my 3 granddaughters all got a very good lesson, the hard way, about fire.

Merry Christmas to all,

John S.

Thanks Dave, we appreciate it. I just didn't want the list to dwell on a sad occurance this timeof year or anytime for that matter, hence the no preplies request. I realize it's hard not to respond to something like that, I will not respond to anymore such condolences, but they are apreciated.

I'll keep you posted,

John S.
