Back in the days before downriggers and for us right up into the 90s we would fish with a soft single stand wire line Ashway was the perferred brand but it got hard to fine. This line sank like a rock,faster sink rate than leadcore and it doesn't stretch at all so you felt every thing the fish did. I still have 2 reels set up with this line and it still works well. It had no markings on it so we counted it out by the foot.
